In the next 10 years 40% of the existing clergy will have retired!! This presents us with a huge challenge in terms of the resourcing the future ministry of our Church. As Catholics we are part of that statistic and
perhaps more than any other group we need to work hard at identifying and encouraging priestly vocations.
To this end we have arranged with the Additional Curates Society a Northern Vocations Conference to be held Hinsley Hall in Leeds from Friday 2nd March to Sunday 4th March. Participants are invited to make a contribution of £100, but grants are available from the ACS as we would not want costs to deter anyone from attending.
This is a personal appeal for you to look around your congregation and to see if there is anybody who might be considering ordination. We need to encourage them and hopefully this conference will be an important step on their pilgrimage to priesthood.
Please would you prayerfully consider this appeal, give the conference publicity by not only using the posters that we enclose but also add the event to your news sheet and pray regularly for more vocations. By far the best way to encourage someone to attend is by a personal approach. Please do not be afraid to challenge somebody with the suggestion of ordination, they might be waiting for you to say this.
Hopefully we can make this an annual event which will help boost the very worrying lack of vocations in the Northern Province, but it really is all up to you to discern, equip and encourage those whom God has already called.
Further posters and booking forms can be gained from the Additional Curates Society or from looking on the ACS website.
Best Wishes.
